Decoration Method
The technique used to apply artwork, branding, or customization to a product.
Decoration Options
The available decoration methods for a specific product.
Embroidery
A decoration method that uses thread stitched directly into a garment or patch. The final look depends on the stitch type, thread, backing, stitch density, and digitized artwork. This entry should serve as the umbrella definition for all embroidery techniques.
Puff Print
A screen-print ink or additive that expands when heated, raising the printed area above the fabric. It creates a soft, dimensional surface and works best with bold shapes and lines wide enough to hold the expanded effect.
Jumbo Print
An oversized print that extends beyond a decorator's standard print area and requires large-format screens, platens, or digital equipment. It is used for artwork covering a large portion of the garment. Final maximum dimensions vary by garment, artwork, and vendor.
Standard Print
A print produced within the decorator's regular printable area using standard equipment. It is commonly used for front, back, or sleeve graphics. Exact size limits depend on garment size and vendor capability and should be confirmed in the print-size guide.
Specialty Print Locations
Printing placed outside the usual center-front or center-back areas, such as sleeves, side seams, pockets, hoods, hems, legs, or wraparound positions. Availability depends on the garment construction and the equipment used by the decorator.
Belt Print
A large-format screen-printing method that carries the garment on a moving belt or table beneath an oversized screen. It supports broad, wraparound, off-edge, or seam-crossing artwork; small variations at folds and seams are a normal part of the result.
Neck Print
A small print positioned at the neckline. It may be used inside the garment as a tagless brand, size, or care label, or outside at the back neck as a design detail. The intended inside or outside location must be specified.
UV (Photopia/Color Changing)
A photochromic print that appears or changes color when exposed to sunlight or ultraviolet light. The effect reverses when the UV source is removed. Color strength and change speed depend on the ink, base fabric, underprint, and light level.
Plastisol Ink
A screen-printing ink made with PVC-based resin and plasticizer. It sits mainly on top of the fabric, producing opaque, bright, durable color and a more noticeable printed feel than most water-based inks.
Crystalina w/ Gold
A layered or blended sparkle effect combining Crystalina's translucent, iridescent glitter with gold shimmer or metallic particles. It creates a warmer, brighter highlight than Crystalina alone. The exact flake size, gold tone, and construction depend on the supplier formula.
Suede Puff
A puff-print finish formulated to expand with a soft, velvety, suede-like surface. It adds height and texture while appearing more matte and less rounded than a standard puff effect.
Waterbased Ink
A screen-printing ink that uses water as its main carrier. It penetrates the fabric more than plastisol and usually creates a softer, lighter feel. Opacity, color, and hand can vary by fabric color, fiber content, and ink system.
Discharge Ink
A water-based screen-printing process that removes or lightens the garment's existing dye and may replace it with a new color. It creates a soft print with little surface build, but results vary by fabric, garment color, and dye chemistry.
High Density + Gel
A combination effect using raised, high-build ink with a clear or colored gel layer. The high-density base creates height and structure, while the gel adds a smooth, glossy, or wet-look surface.
Metallic Copper Ink
A metallic-effect screen-print ink formulated in a copper tone. Fine reflective particles create a warm, metal-like sheen. It is an ink effect rather than real copper, and its brightness changes with lighting, ink deposit, and garment color.
Clear Gel
A transparent gel ink printed alone or over color to create a glossy, wet-look, or dimensional highlight. It adds surface texture and shine without fully hiding the design or garment beneath it.
Shimmer Print
A print containing very fine reflective particles that create a soft sparkle or pearlescent sheen. Shimmer is generally smoother and subtler than glitter and can be printed as a color or as a highlight over another ink.
Glow-in-the-Dark Ink
A phosphorescent ink that absorbs light and releases it gradually in darkness. The print must be charged by light before it glows; brightness and glow duration depend on the pigment, ink deposit, underbase, and exposure.
Crystalina Ink
A translucent specialty ink containing iridescent glitter flakes. It is often printed over another color to add a cool, glass-like sparkle while allowing the base artwork to remain visible.
High-Solids Waterbased / PVC Free
An opaque water-based ink system with a higher solids content, designed to build stronger color and coverage without PVC. It can approach plastisol-like opacity while retaining the characteristics of a water-based print.
Foil
A thin metallic or specialty film bonded to selected garment areas with heat and adhesive. It creates a highly reflective, mirror-like surface. Distressed or partial coverage can be intentional, and care requirements are typically more delicate than a standard print.
Reflective (3M)
A decoration using 3M Scotchlite reflective material, commonly as a heat-applied film or fabric. Tiny optical elements return light toward its source, making the design appear bright when illuminated in low-light conditions.
Reflective (Magna)
A screen-printed reflective effect using Magna water-based ink with micro glass beads. Under direct light, the beads return light toward the source, creating a bright reflective appearance while retaining a printed finish.
Waterbased Pearl
A water-based ink containing pearlescent pigments that create a soft, luminous, metallic-like sheen. The effect is smoother and more subtle than glitter and can be tinted to different colors.
Waterbased Metallic
A water-based ink containing metallic-effect pigments that create a stronger metal-like shine than a standard pearl finish. It provides reflective visual interest while retaining the characteristics of a water-based print.
Gloss Transfer
A heat-applied transfer manufactured with a shiny surface finish. It produces smooth, vibrant artwork with noticeable light reflection. The gloss comes from the transfer film or coating rather than wet ink printed directly on the garment.
Matte Transfer
A heat-applied transfer manufactured with a low-shine, nonreflective surface. It gives artwork a flatter, more understated appearance and can help the decoration look closer to a conventional print.
Silver Glitter
A specialty print or transfer containing visible silver glitter particles. It creates a bold, textured sparkle with larger, more noticeable reflection than shimmer or pearl effects.
Chameleon Reflective
A specialty reflective finish intended to shift color as the viewing angle or lighting changes and become brighter under direct light. The exact color-shift and reflective behavior depend on the supplier's pigment, transfer, or layered print system.
High Density
A screen-printing technique that deposits a thick layer of ink to create a raised, structured design with defined edges. Unlike puff, the height comes from ink build rather than expansion, producing a firmer, more architectural effect.
Metallic Ink
A screen-print ink containing reflective particles that create a metal-like sheen, commonly silver, gold, copper, or bronze. It is less mirror-like than foil and usually has a slightly textured printed surface.
Faux Rhinestones
A heat-applied glitter, holographic, or metallic material cut or printed to imitate individual rhinestones. It creates a gem-like sparkle without attaching separate stones, reducing weight, cost, and the risk of pieces coming loose.
Faux 3D Embroidery
A non-stitched decoration engineered to imitate raised embroidery, usually as a dimensional heat-applied transfer or emblem. It creates thread-like texture or depth without running embroidery through the garment. The exact construction should be confirmed with the vendor.
DTG/Digital Print
Direct-to-garment printing uses an inkjet printer to apply full-color artwork directly to fabric from a digital file. It is well suited to detailed images, gradients, and smaller quantities, with color and feel varying by fabric, pretreatment, and ink coverage.
Heat Transfers
A broad decoration method in which pre-made artwork, ink, or film is bonded to a garment with heat and pressure. It includes screen-printed transfers, DTF, vinyl, foil, and specialty finishes and works well for detailed graphics or difficult placements.
Chain Stitch
An embroidery stitch made from connected, looped stitches that resemble a chain. It creates a textured, handcrafted or vintage look and is commonly used for outlines, lettering, and decorative line work.
Satin Stitch
A series of closely spaced stitches that run back and forth across a narrow shape. It creates a smooth, slightly raised, glossy surface and is commonly used for lettering, borders, and small graphic elements.
Fill Stitch
Closely spaced rows of stitches used to cover larger areas of a design. It creates a flatter, more even surface than satin stitch and is useful for backgrounds, large shapes, and solid fields of color.
3D Embroidery
Embroidery stitched over foam or another build-up material to create a raised, rounded effect. It works best with bold lettering and simple shapes; very small details and thin lines may not reproduce clearly.
Embroidered Patch
A separate fabric patch decorated with stitched thread, creating a classic raised texture. It can be sewn, heat-applied, or attached with another backing and is generally best for bold artwork rather than very fine detail.
Woven Patch
A patch made by weaving fine threads together to form the artwork. The thinner thread and flat surface allow sharper small text and detail than traditional embroidery while retaining a textile look.
Sublimated Patch
A patch whose full-color artwork is dyed into polyester fabric using heat. It allows fine detail, gradients, and photographic imagery with a smooth, flat surface rather than a stitched texture.
Chenille Patch
A patch made with thick, looped yarn that creates a soft, fuzzy, varsity-style texture, usually on a felt or fabric base. It is best suited to bold letters, numbers, mascots, and simple shapes.
Molded Patch
A flexible patch formed in a mold, typically from PVC, silicone, or a similar rubber-like material. Raised and recessed areas create dimensional detail, and the finished patch is durable and often water resistant. The exact material should be specified.
Twill Patch
A patch or applique made from cut twill fabric, often secured with an embroidered or zigzag border. It creates a classic athletic or collegiate look and is efficient for large letters, numbers, and bold shapes.
Custom Label
A branded or informational label created specifically for the product, such as a woven main label, printed care label, size label, neck print, or hangtag. Required legal, fiber-content, country-of-origin, and care information must still be included where applicable.
Custom Trims
Product components developed or branded for a specific design, such as zippers, snaps, buttons, cords, drawcord tips, elastic, patches, tabs, or hardware. Custom trims can add identity and perceived value but may increase minimums and lead time.
Screen Printing
A decoration method that pushes ink through a mesh stencil onto a product. It is widely used on apparel and flat goods and can support solid colors, specialty inks, raised effects, and large print areas depending on the equipment.
Sublimation
A print method in which heat turns dye into gas so it bonds with polyester-based material. It supports detailed, full-color, and all-over graphics with a smooth finish that does not sit on top of the surface.
Etched Finish
A recessed design created by chemically, mechanically, or laser-removing material from a surface such as metal, glass, or coated goods. The result is durable and typically has little or no added thickness.
Embossed / Debossed Finish
A finish created by pressing a design into a material: embossing raises the design, while debossing recesses it. It is commonly used on leather, paper, rubber, and packaging.
Custom Mold
A custom-shaped tool used to form a product, component, patch, or dimensional detail in materials such as plastic, rubber, silicone, resin, or metal. New molds can add development time and cost.
All-Over Print
A print designed to cover most or all of a product surface rather than a single placement. Artwork may cross panels or seams, so alignment and edge variation should be expected.
Tear Away Label
A removable garment label designed to separate cleanly from the seam so the product can be relabeled or worn without the original tag.
Woven Label
A label made by weaving fine threads into branding, care information, or garment details. Its flat textile construction supports crisp artwork and gives apparel or accessories a finished retail presentation.
Satin Label
A smooth, soft label treatment often used where comfort against skin and a premium presentation are important.
Applique
A decoration method where fabric or material pieces are attached to the product surface.
Patch
A separate decorated element attached to a product, often woven, embroidered, rubber, leather, or silicone.

Finishes, Washes & Treatments
Garment Wash
A broad finishing process in which a completed garment is washed after sewing to soften the fabric, reduce shrinkage, clean the surface, or create a specific appearance. The term does not identify one exact wash recipe.
Vintage Wash
A wash treatment designed to make a new garment look softly faded and already worn. It may combine enzymes, pigments, abrasion, softeners, or other processes, so the exact method and degree of variation should be specified.
Enzyme Wash
A garment wash using enzymes to remove surface fibers and gently break down the fabric's outer layer. It can soften the garment, reduce fuzz, and create a controlled worn or washed-down appearance.
Pigment Wash
A color and wash treatment that uses pigments held mainly on the fabric surface to create muted, uneven, vintage-looking color. The finish is designed to soften and fade gradually with washing and wear.
Custom Garment Dye
Dyeing or tinting a garment after it has been cut and sewn to achieve a custom color. Seams, stitching, and different fabric areas may absorb color differently, producing subtle variation that is part of the garment-dyed look.
Potassium Spray
A localized fading treatment, often called PP spray, in which potassium permanganate is applied to selected garment areas to lighten color and create highlights or worn effects. It requires controlled factory handling and careful neutralization.
Garment Distressing
Intentional finishing that makes a new garment look worn, aged, or damaged. Techniques may include sanding, grinding, nicking, fraying, holes, fading, or abrasion; variation between pieces is usually expected.
Cropping & Alterations
Physical changes made to a finished or blank garment, such as shortening the body or sleeves, reshaping panels, removing hems, or adding raw or re-finished edges. Final measurements and edge treatment must be specified.
Pre-Shrunk
Pre-treated to help reduce shrinkage and support a more consistent fit after washing.
Heavyweight
A heavier-weight construction designed for structure, durability, and a more substantial feel.
